As the mayor of your city, I want you to do a research project on your local community, including your school district and its surroundings, using mathematical & geographical means.

It involves drawing, measuring and calculation.

Please follow the steps and send in your solutions to the town hall for future town planning.

Tasks 1 & 2

Creating a map of your neighborhood: You should use geometry to measure the distances between different landmarks in your neighbourhood such as parks and stores, always start at your school, and create a map showing their locations.

Task 3

Calculating distances: You should use geometry to calculate the area of your chosen landmarks (parks, shops, schoolyard.) For example, you could use a map and a ruler or other tools to measure that in square meters (m²).

Task 4

Population studies: You should use mathematics to analyze population data, such as birth and death rates, migration patterns, and population density. This could involve using statistical methods or creating mathematical models.

Task 5

Creative task: Make a prediction what your school and its surroundings will look like in future based on the demographic development.

Make suggestions to the town planners about:

- new classrooms needed?

- fewer classrooms needed?

- new gym/spaces for new teaching methods...?

- greenery?

- different infrastructure?
